The Mobility for Life Project will form a large comprehensive musculoskeletal health database, helping researchers identify early indicators of disease, improve diagnosis and target effective treatment.
Musculoskeletal diseases do not progress quickly, therefore a long-term strategy needs to be developed. The Mobility for Life Project is designed to effectively capture comprehensive data that will enable researchers to more efficiently identify, assess, and longitudinally monitor musculoskeletal health and mobility.
Your participation will help: - find meaningful treatments for musculoskeletal disease and injury earlier - improve care and monitoring strategies for individuals affected by musculoskeletal diseases and injuries - prevent musculoskeletal disease and injury from occurring
When you create an account with the Mobility for Life Project you will be prompted to consent and complete questionnaires that are important to the development of bone and joint health research. Questionnaires will collect demographic, health history, and quality of life information. With information from yourself and thousands of others, researchers can analyze the data to look for different ways to treat, monitor and prevent bone and joint diseases.
Scientists and other stakeholders studying musculoskeletal health may approach the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health to ask for access to the data. If granted they will be able to obtain data for use in expanding their research studies, but they will not be able to access your identifying information. Access to collected information is strictly controlled through an approval process to protect participant privacy. Examples of how your data may be used include: - Notifying patients of clinical trials and other research opportunities - Developing standards of care and improving adherence across the country - Advocating efforts of patient organizations - Conducting research to understand the quality of life impacts on patients and families - Conducting research to better understand bone and joint health - Developing new therapy for clinical research
Your personal information and anything that could be used to identify you will always be kept secure and will only be seen by researchers at the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health. To keep track of your data each participant will be assigned a coded number that will be used in place of any identifying information. The data is managed by Lumiio Inc. a Calgary-based company focused on world-class data security protection of participant data. Your data will never be sold, redistributed, shared, or used outside of the Mobility for Life Project. Lumiio has strict policies in place that restrict any member of the research support team from viewing your data, except for resolving database issues. The data storage and management processes utilized by Lumiio have undergone stringent review from the University of Calgary Information Technologies team and uphold top data security regulations such as SOC-II type I, and is fully PIPEDA, HIPAA, and GRDP compliant. Please reach out to either your team at the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health or to Lumiio directly at info@lumiio.com if you have any questions about data management policies.
